Creating Free Phone Numbers

Creating free phone numbers on the Vapi platform.

This guide details how to create free phone numbers on the Vapi platform, which you can use with your assistants or squads.

Open Phone Numbers

Open the Dashboard. Select Phone Numbers.

Choose a free Vapi number

Select Create Phone Number, then choose Free Vapi Number under Phone Number Options.

Open Phone Numbers and start the creation flow.

Enter an area code

Enter a supported US area code in Area Code. If the Dashboard displays Payment method required, add a payment method before continuing.

Vapi-managed free phone numbers support US area codes. To use an international number, choose one of the import options under Phone Number Options.

Choose Free Vapi Number and enter a US area code.

Create the number

Select Create. Vapi assigns an available phone number with the area code you entered.

It can take a few minutes for the phone number to become active. Calls will not work until activation is complete.

Assign inbound calls

Open the new phone number. Under Inbound Settings, choose the Assistant, Squad, or Workflow that should handle incoming calls, then select Save.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each account can have up to five free Vapi phone numbers.

Not at this time. You can still bring in global numbers using our phone number import feature.

You can request one free Vapi phone number without adding a payment method. To request additional Vapi phone numbers, add a payment method.
